... for not making cruise control standard on the 2013 F-150. I got my first speeding ticket the other day, largely because of that. Yes, obviously it was my own fault, (especially since I would have been speeding anyway; I thought the limit was still 70, but it had dropped to 60) but I wouldn’t have been going 82 if I was able to set the truck at 70 like I do when I get to use the much nicer GMC at work. I probably would have been able to get a warning if it was that situation, since the officer did seem to be understanding of the fact that I was going to Atlanta from Memphis (6-7 hours) and on course to make it back just minutes before the warehouse closed. (spoiler: I didn’t make it in time)

But anyway, the good news is he marked the truck as a personal vehicle, so I technically still haven’t gotten a ticket on the job, and that just might be all it takes to keep me from losing this one. That said, I do think I need to tell them about it at some point, and I really hope they operate on a three-strikes system or something.

On a related note, I’m kicking myself for not taking a few minutes in the morning to cross the river into Arkansas, just for the sake of adding another state to my collection.

But seriously, how is it not standard? It was on my 1985 Accord that I had in high school! Also on the 1981 Aries wagon I had, briefly, in college... wow

Ouch!

I loves me some cruise control.

I will occasionally use my CC on streets where the limit is 35.

I often use it on surface streets, if I’m just cruising along.

Yup. I use it particularly at night when I’m coming home down streets where I know there are cops (read: rougher parts of town). On weekend nights, the cops are just looking for people to pull over, and I don’t want to give them any excuses.

As a “fuck you” charge to make you pay more.

In the days of cable throttles, it actually did require more hardware - a computer that wasn’t there before, speed sensing hardware reading the speedometer cable, a dashpot and second throttle cable - but none of that is needed any more. It’s literally the switches and a bit flipped in the engine computer.

Despite cruise control no longer being a hardware thing with any additional costs for the manufacturer, it still isn’t standard on a 2017 F150 either.

I haven’t used cruise control in years (because Atlanta).

Last time I used it was moving back here, driving across Kansas. I would if I had something with radar cruise control, but it’s not worth it if I have to constantly adjust it, or hit resume every 30 seconds.

Really? My base 2013 XLT has it. I honestly thought it was standard.

Maybe you need to blame the state for not making the speed limit match however fast you are going, too?

Yeah, it probably costs them mere pennies to actually stick cruise control on a car now. It’s super easy.

It might be different for fleet vehicles. I’m actually not sure if this one was a fleet truck, but it is just ultra basic. It doesn’t even have a scan button for the radio.

To be honest.... I do think the road should have at least been 65. No corners at all, and very gradual hills.

But yeah, it was definitely all on me. I just wish it was easier to keep speed by intuition.

Ah ok. A fleet truck makes more sense.
